New Silk Road - first Chinese container train arrives in Kaluga

On a cold February 5th night the Kaluga Region, south west of Moscow, received its first direct container train from Dalian, China. Transported under the auspices of the “New Silk Road”, the train was received by the multi model logistics facility “Vorsino Freight Village.” Demonstrating the global significance of the Chinese initiative, the containers belonged to Korean electronic’s giant Samsung and originated in South Korea.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by various dignitaries including the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Alexei Tsydenov; Regional Governor, Anatoly Artamonov; Vnesheconombank Chairman, Vladimir Dmitriev; the head of the Moscow branch of Russian Railways, Vladimir Moldaver; Head of the Central Region, Federal Customs of Russia (FCS), Sergey Prusov; Deputy director of “TransContainer,” Alexander Podylov; the President of Samsung Electronics CIS, Mr. Kim and the General Director of “Samsung Electronics Rus Kaluga LLC” Mr Ahn Yong-Sung; plus representatives of regional and municipal authorities.
